The Akashi Channel Bridge, officially known as Akashi Kaikyo Bridge, is one of the world's longest suspension bridges according to the Honshu-Shikoku Bridge Expressway Company Limited website (Akashi-Kaikyo Bridge - Bridge World - Enjoy the top of the Bridge, the LONGEST BRIDGE in the world!).
Akashi City is located at 135 degrees east longitude, at which Japan Standard Time is set. They say that for this reason, this city is called the meridian town, which means that it is a town on the meridian of 135 degrees east longitude.

本州四国連絡高速道路株式会社のホームページによると（明石海峡大橋ブリッジワールド:世界最大級の吊橋を体験しよう！－JB本四高速－）、明石海峡大橋は世界最大級の吊り橋らしいですね。
明石市は日本標準時が決められる東経135度に位置しているため、子午線のまちと呼ばれているそうです（東経135度の子午線が通るまちということみたいです）。
